Privacy Policy
This policy explains what NextTierEdu records about the people who use it, including children, and what we do with it. NextTierEdu is run by Unclejet Innovations, which is responsible for this information. We handle personal data in line with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
The short version: we keep what the site needs to work, we don't sell anyone's information, we don't show advertising, and you can ask us to see, correct or delete what we hold.
1. What we record
| Who | What |
|---|---|
| Everyone | Name, username, email address, mobile number, country, the role you registered as, the referral username you gave (if any), and when you accepted these terms. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash; nobody, including us, can read it. |
| Students | Date of birth, school and class. The lessons watched and how far into each, the books opened and the last page read, answers and scores for each quiz, and any ratings and notes. |
| Parents | The children you add (their names, username and class), and what you buy for them. |
| Teachers | School, qualification, the certificate you upload, your photo if you add one, the lessons, books and questions you upload, your sales and earnings, and the name and mobile money number you give for payouts. |
| Buyers | What was bought, for which student, the amount, the taxes and the payment reference. Card and mobile money details go to Paystack, not to us. |
| Anyone who writes to us | Your name, email and message, from the contact form, support tickets or reports. |
| Technical | Your IP address when you log in (to stop password-guessing), security logs of failed logins and blocked uploads, and the notification devices you allow. |
2. Why we record it
- To run the service you signed up for: accounts, unlocking what was paid for, showing progress, sending quiz results to parents, and paying teachers.
- To keep it safe: stopping password-guessing and automated sign-ups, checking uploads for viruses, and finding the source of leaked material.
- Because the law requires it: payment and tax records.
- To answer you: when you write to us.
We don't use anyone's information for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't build profiles of children.
3. Children
Most students are under 18. A parent or guardian should either create the child's login from their own account or give permission for the child to register. A parent can see what their child has watched, read and scored, and receives each quiz score by text message and in the app. A teacher sees the name of a student who buys their work, and someone whose referral username was used at sign-up sees the new user's name, role and class. No one else using the site sees a student's details. If you believe a child has registered without permission, contact us and we will remove the account.
4. Who else sees it
Within the site, the admin can see accounts to review teachers, handle payments and answer support. A teacher sees the name and role of whoever bought their work, never their contact details. If you entered someone's username as your referral when you registered, they see your name, role, class and the date you joined. We also use these services to run the site, and each receives only what it needs:
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Paystack | Takes payments | Your email address, the amount, and the payment details you enter on their page |
| mNotify | Sends text messages | The parent's mobile number and the message, which names the child, the lesson and the score |
| Resend | Sends emails | Your email address and the message (sign-up codes, password resets, replies) |
| OneSignal | Sends app notifications, if you allow them | An account number rather than your name, and the text of each notification, which can include a child's name and score |
| Cloudflare | Protects the site, stores lessons, books and uploads, and checks for automated sign-ups | Your IP address and browser details as you use the site, and the files uploaded |
| Amazon Web Services | Hosts the server and database | Everything listed in section 1, stored for us |
Some of these services store data outside Ghana. We use them only on terms that require them to protect it. We share information with the police or a court only when the law requires us to.
5. Cookies and storage on your device
- A session cookie keeps you logged in, and a security cookie protects forms from being submitted by other sites. Both are needed for the site to work.
- Your browser remembers whether you collapsed the menu and whether you dismissed the “add to home screen” prompt. This never leaves your device.
- We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
- Account details, progress and scores: while the account is open.
- When an account is deleted, its personal details are removed. If a teacher's work has been bought, the account is closed and their name and contact details removed, but the lessons, books and sales records stay, so buyers keep what they paid for.
- Payment and payout records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Security logs: only as long as needed to deal with the problem they record.
- Contact messages: until the question is dealt with, and a reasonable time after in case you write again.
7. How we protect it
- The whole site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes, and repeated wrong passwords lock the login for a while.
- Every upload is virus-checked and rebuilt from scratch before it is stored. Photos lose their hidden details, such as the GPS location a phone camera records.
- Only the account owner and the admin can open a teacher's certificate.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the Data Protection Commission as the law requires.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you or your child, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Most details can be corrected on your profile page, and you can delete your account there yourself. For anything else, email us; we will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
9. Changes
We will post changes here with a new date at the top, and tell you by email or in the app before any change that affects how your information is used.
10. Contact
Questions, requests or complaints about your information: [email protected].
